Amita Shukla

Founder

I’m Amita Shukla, I have an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and a background in Human Psychology. My journey into this work has been shaped by both academic training and rich life experience as a world traveller, which has deepened my understanding of culture, identity, resilience, and belonging.

I have supported survivors of abuse and conducted research on coping with bereavement – experiences that strengthened my compassion and commitment to walking alongside people through their most vulnerable moments.

I’m the founder of AST Psychotherapy, created to offer culturally attuned, inclusive spaces where individuals feel truly seen and understood.

In my private practice, I help people navigate psychological distress rooted in past or present life experiences. My approach is warm, reflective, and collaborative. Together, we explore unconscious patterns, validate your journey, and create space for meaningful growth and transformation.

At the heart of my work is a simple intention: to provide a safe space where healing feels possible and change feels empowering.

Therapist

As a Counsellor, I feel therapy should be a safe space for everyone to feel comfortable to talk about whatever may be on their mind and to feel heard and understood. I like to create this space for us both and use my listening skills to help clients feel validated and facilitate finding their own way through any obstacles they may be facing. Being able to be honest about how you are feeling and not being judged can be very powerful and help bring any unconscious patterns to the forefront, which I believe helps to facilitate a change. We will also work in a relational way and through our therapeutic work, clients can find themselves being more open to connect with others too.

My background is mainly in counselling and mental wellbeing work, where I have helped clients find more proactive ways to uplift their mood and physical health that also impacts on their mental state. I also started with my BSc in Psychology and then completed my Masters in Counselling Psychology, both of which have given me a deeper understanding of the foundations we use to understand clients. I continuously strive to learn more and keep up to date with training and of course find every experience with my clients a privilege. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my loved one and enjoy travelling to new places and meeting new people. I look forward to meeting and working with new and prospective clients.

I began my educational journey with a Bachelor’s degree, which laid the groundwork for my career in therapy. As I continued my studies in Counselling, I expanded my knowledge and explored various therapeutic techniques. I also took part in extensive volunteer work, gaining a broad range of experiences in the field. Through my academic and professional years, I’ve had the chance to support clients from all over the world, enriching my understanding of different cultures and broadening my perspective on mental health. This international experience has equipped me to work effectively with diverse mental health challenges with clients such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, self-esteem struggles, grief, loss, and other challenges.

In my practice, I adopt a Humanistic approach, emphasising empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence to create a safe and supportive space for clients. This approach fosters a sense of security, allowing them to explore their emotions and work through their challenges. My therapeutic style is Integrative, combining multiple theories, such as the Person-Centred approach, to tailor interventions to each client’s unique needs. This flexibility helps clients recognise and challenge negative thought patterns while providing practical strategies for stress management. I also use Transactional Analysis to explore interpersonal dynamics, gaining insights into how people connect and relate. Ultimately, my goal is to guide clients on a personalised journey toward greater self-awareness, personal growth, and a path toward becoming the best version of themselves.

Faha

Therapist

My name is Faha, and I am a Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist. With a strong passion for the field of talking therapies from an early stage, I actively pursued opportunities to gain work experience and academic qualifications. In 2006, I obtained a BSc in Psychology, which paved the way for my enrolment in a rigorous three-year clinical training program (MSc) in counselling and psychotherapy. Since graduating in 2012, I have been delivering integrative therapies, drawing upon my intensive person-centred training to address a diverse range of mental health needs in both private and public sectors over the past 11.5 years.

Driven by a commitment to facing challenges with honesty and focus, I recognise the importance of gaining insight, acquiring knowledge of tools and techniques, and setting goals to overcome life’s obstacles. While this journey may seem daunting, I firmly believe, based on my extensive experience as a mental health professional, that it is achievable with dedication and motivation.
